Laboratory & Diagnostic Services

At GROW Pediatrics, we have the ability to perform many point-of-care tests in-house. Results are usually available within one hour for the following;

  • Covid-19, Flu, and RSV (nasal swabs)
  • Rapid Strep  (oral swabs)
  • Hemoglobin
  • Lead testing
  • Dipstick Urinalysis
  • Mononucleosis Screen (Monospot)
  • Fecal occult blood tests
  • Urine Pregnancy Test

Several other diagnostic tests are routinely collected in our office, and sent to an outside lab (result times vary);

  • Newborn Screens (Texas DSHS mandated and processed)
  • Throat Cultures
  • Newborn Bilirubin
  • Urine Cultures
  • Urinalysis with Microscopic Assay
  • Skin, hair and nail cultures (fungal and bacterial).
  • PCR testing for respiratory pathogens
  • PCR testing for other viral pathogens (HSV)

We most commonly use Clinical Pathology Labs (CPL) for our send-out specimens. Patient demographic and insurance information is included with the outgoing test order, and any applicable cost for the lab service is billed directly to the patient/guarantor. If your insurance carrier requires that you use a different lab, or you have a preference for any reason, please let us know.

CPL also has a lab draw station on the second floor of our building and they are comfortable drawing blood from young children.

Imaging Services

We do not have imaging capability within our office, but refer to reputable nearby facilities that employ pediatric-trained radiologists and technicians.

ARA Childrens Imaging Center Mueller– one block away in the Strictly Pediatrics building.

Dell Children’s Outpatient Imaging Center is also very close by, and operated by Dell Children’s Hospital. They generally have walk-in availability for X-Rays, Mon-Friday 7:30 am to 2:00 pm.
